A Beautiful Conversation

Recently I overheard a conversation between my daughter Sowmya and her neighbour-friend-cousin Dhanush. She is 4 and he is 8. I still have my doubts whether posting this is a breach of privacy.

Dhanush (D): I have decided one thing.

Sowmya (S): What's that?

D: When I get married and have a child,I'll name him Viswa.

S: What if the child is a girl?

D: [He thinks] Dunno. I have only decided on boy name.

S: I have decided not to marry at all.

D: Wow. Then u are going to enjoy your life.!!!

s: [she nods without understanding the real meaning of it]. When i grow,I shall become a scientist and make girl robots.

D: Then i'll also become a scientist and make boy robot.

S: Will u become scientist first? or will u marry first?

D: No. no. After marriage the wife will not allow me to work and will interrupt me and ask me to do all sort of household chores. So, I'll become scientist and make robot first.  Afterwards I'll marry.

Home Work

Sowmya came home from school very happily. She was beaming with joy because she was given homework for the first time. She put her sandals, lunch bag everything properly in their place and got ready to do her homework. She obeyed everything i said without slightest protest, so that she could do her homework without much delay. I am also a little carried away with excitement.

The home work was a simple - joining the dots to complete a picture and to color it. But this seemingly simple task was just too much for the kids. Mainly beacause kids are more interested in using the eraser to rub than using the pencil to do it properly. Sowmya atleast more interested in eraser and, with much difficulty she connected the dots with a line(which is mostly crooked) and colored it. I felt enchanted (and silly at the same time). When arun came he too was overwhelmed with pride on seeing her work. We both were completely smitten by this homework thing and was talking endlessly about how she became a big girl(FYI :doing LKG) and doing homeworks and all that.....

I forgave myself later with the thinking that anything "First..." should has its charm and we can go little overboard to enjoy it. Even now sowmya does her homework, first thing after reaching home and play comes later. my mom said in this she is just like me.

Terrace Picnic

Nowadays arun is too busy in his job, we are forced to spend the evenings in our house with ourselves. My kids get really bored and in their frustration becoming very naughty and its intolerable. So i hit upon an idea of terrace picnic.

Me and my 2 kids go to terrace packing rug, bread-jam, chips, juice, plates, glasses, few toys, ball-bat and cycle. Placing everything in the rug, we start partying there. Dancing for the songs playing from my mobile or hitting balls with bats or legs, cycling and meanwhile munching sandwiches, chips, etc. Its a great fun and an instant hit too. They are eagerly waiting for this picnic trip(as i restricted this to once in a week). I hope the novelty doesn't wear off for some more time, atleast till some other new idea pops up in my mind.
